Based on these 5 factors (flow, content, rhyme/rhythm, delivery and cadence) and most importantly commercial success, here is my list of top ten rappers in Africa. Starting at number 10 is:
10. Naira Marley
Azeez Adeshina Fashola, known professionally as Naira Marley, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He is known as the president of his controversial fan base, “Marlians”. London’s underground legend Naira Marley is a key pioneer in the UK AfroBashment scene, fusing his inimitable Lagos accent with trap, bashment, grime and afrobeats to create a sound that encapsulates the melting pot of London’s constantly innovative club scene..
9. Ice Prince (Nigeria)
Arguably the most controversial entry on this list, Panshak Henry Zamani, better known as Ice Prince, is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist and actor. He rose to fame after releasing “Oleku”, one of Nigeria’s most remixed songs of all time. He won the 2009 Hennessy Artistry Club Tour. His debut studio album Everybody Loves Ice Prince was released in 2011.
8. Falz (Nigeria)
Folarin Falana, better known by his stage name Falz, is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter and actor who began his career while in secondary school after forming a group called “The School Boys” with his friend before his professional career as a music artist began in 2009.
Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, known professionally as AKA, is a South African rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur. Born and raised in Cape Town, Western Cape, Forbes gained significance after releasing his single “Victory Lap” which was released from his debut album, Altar Ego.

Refiloe Maele Phoolo, professionally known as Cassper Nyovest, is a South African rapper, songwriter, entrepreneur and record producer. Born and raised in Mahikeng, North West, he is regarded as one of the most successful artist in South Africa. In 2014, he established his own record label, Family Tree Records.
Born Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, M.anifest is a Ghanaian rapper, singer and songwriter. He won Best Rapper and Hip-Hop song of the year at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards. He has worked with Damon Albarn, Flea, Tony Allen, Erykah Badu, and is featured on five songs on the Rocket Juice and The Moon album.
4. M.I Abaga
Jude Abaga, better known as M.I Abaga, is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist and record producer. He was CEO of Chocolate City from June 2015 to 2019. He won Best Hip Hop and Best New Act at the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards, and was nominated in the Best International Act category at the BET Awards 2010.
3. Nasty C
Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, known professionally as Nasty C, is a South African rapper, songwriter and record producer.
After releasing two mixtapes and two EP, Ngcobo released his critically acclaimed debut album Bad Hair (2016), and Strings and Bling (2018) which was associated and supported by his first tour, The Ivyson Tour. He was the youngest recipient of an award at the 2015 South African Hip Hop Awards, namely the Best Freshman Award.
In March 2020, Nasty C signed a joint venture deal with Def Jam Records Africa and released his third album on August 28, 2020 and his first on the label titled Zulu Man With Some Power which received mixed reviews in South Africa.

In 2009, Jones won the Channel O Emcee Africa, a highly visible competition that propelled him immediately to nationwide acclaim. He became known for his inventive freestyle cyphers.
Michael Owusu Addo known professionally as Sarkodie, is a Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneur who represents Tema. His contributions to the Ghanaian music industry have earned him numerous accolades, including the Vodafone Ghana Music Award for “Artiste of the Decade”.
According to HIPHOP Africa, Sarkodie is the best rapper in Africa. The celebrated rapper is also listed among the top 100 rappers in the world. He was announced the very first winner of BET’s best international flow act at the 2019 BET HIPHOP awards.
Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide, is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist. He records in Yoruba, and English. In 2011, he released his debut studio album Rapsodi while signed to Coded Tunes. YBNL, his follow-up album, was released under his label imprint YBNL Nation
Maya Christinah Xichavo Wegerif, known professionally as Sho Madjozi, is a South African rapper, singer, songwriter, actress and poet. Regarded as one of the best performers in Africa, Madjozi incorporates the Tsonga culture through her music and public image.
